Tiananmen Square: People are straight-up crazy
Today, it’s the 20th anniversary of protests at Tiananmen Square. After a little bit of reading, I’ve realised that the most vocal members of the debate (those on the side of the students) should shut the fuck up.
Ignoring the fact that the constant repetition of your argument long after the event only serves to prove how weak your argument is, let’s look at the facts:
- Guy dies
- People gather in the millions to mourn him
- Radicals used the opportunity to stage a protest
- The protest turned violent
- Military was called in to enforce martial law to ensure the safety of China’s citizens
- Protestors assaulted the peacekeepers with Molotov cocktails and other weapons
- The military reacted in defence yet still with incredible restraint
Let’s talk about the Tank Man. Ah, that iconic image evocative of David vs Goliath, an unassuming citizen standing up against the military might. Truly, this man was braver than any on Earth, standing right in front of the war machines of Evil China. Yet one has to wonder: If the PLA was as violent as some say, why didn’t they blast him out of the way? Why didn’t they run him down? As I said, restraint.
Perhaps the PLA overreacted by making such a show of force, but you should question why they felt it necessary before accusing them of being tyrannical and oppressive.
You are straight-up dead to me.
Do a bit more research and you’ll learn that that protestor was believed to have been dragged off, tortured and executed.
